I had the privilege last Friday of participating in Teach for America Week at Compton-Drew ILC Middle School, located in the 64th district.
Teach for America recruits outstanding recent college graduates to commit to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools. The Teach for America corps members focus on eliminating educational inequities and ensuring student success. St. Louis has been fortunate to have hundreds of committed young teachers working in our schools.
This year was the fourth year that I participated in Teach for America Week. During Teach for America Week, leaders from a variety of sectors serve as guest teachers. I enjoyed working with the 6th grade class at Compton-Drew ILC Middle School. We discussed politics and government, healthcare, animal welfare, and the art of negotiation and compromise!
